Strength analysis of marine biaxial warp-knitted glass fabrics as composite laminations for ship material

Abstract Fiberglass-reinforced plastics (FRP) composite materials for ships that are widely used marine-grade unsaturated polyester resin matrix and combimat fiber, a combination of chopped strand mat (CSM) woven roving (WR) fibers. Although less popular than marine CSM–WR, biaxial warp-knitted glass fabrics have the potential to be applied as fiber laminates ship hull materials. A comparative study tensile bending strength between CSM–WR CSM–biaxial had been conducted. All composites met criteria Indonesian Classification Bureau. Specifically, higher flexural with fewer laminations CSM–WR. Laminate type II highest average normalized strength, 186.1 319.2 MPa. layer fiberglass very significant effect on strength.
